In my personal opinion, the group that is marginalized in our society today is Black Americans. The dominant group in this case would be White Americans, who historically have held more power and privilege in society. Black Americans face discrimination in many areas of their life such as education, employment, and the criminal justice system. Black students are more likely to attend schools with less resources and experienced teachers. This can lead to disadvantage in academic achievement and opportunities later in life. In employment, Black Americans face hiring discrimination and are often paid less than their White coworkers for the same work. They are also more likely to experience workplace discrimination and harassment. Finally, the criminal justice system disproportionately impacts Black Americans, who are more likely to be stopped, searched, and arrested than White Americans. This can result in lifelong consequences, such as difficulty finding employment or housing, that can make it difficult to break out of the cycle of poverty and discrimination as majority of the black community can face. Overall, Black Americans face systemic discrimination and marginalization in our society, which has led to significant disparities in many areas of life.

No I think the Photojournalist should've helped the child in the picture as he saw the struggles and position the child was in through that photo. I think by not helping the child, the photojournalist regretted his choices as it came back to when the media started to notice the picture of the child in Sudan. I think photojournalist should be responsible and caring enough to create change or alter in some way to make positive change just as much as they care for their work/career.
It's just the stereotypes and racism black people have to face in today's society. We live in a world where an innocent black family who's sleeping in their car can get 911 straight to them without doing anything. When I saw the amount of people that passed by the three white kids who were also doing the same act as the three black kids, I can see the huge difference between white and black kids when it comes to situations like this. This shows that white people are able to get away with a lot of things that are comparable to what black kids may do also.
Throughout the video, it talks about how most arrest and lives taken away were black people. This made an impact towards the black community as they felt violated and unprotected by a system where it needs to protect the people. They found that race-based data was black people being at 1.6x. In a way for the police and the government to say sorry about all of this, its not enough for the pain and damage they caused towards black communities. In my personal opinion, the government needs to figure out ways to avoid situations like these because if not, it'll only get worse for them in the future.
During the video about Police Misconduct, I've realized how we as a society of color are scared towards an organization that's supposed to protect us from harm. Instead in some cases, the harm comes from corrupt police systems. Throughout the video, it talks about how all cops are protected by a legal concept called the "Qualified Immunity". It is stated that its hard in most cases to sue a cop for anything, especially murder due to the fact that the qualified immunity protects them. This leads to abusing the power of the legal concept as some police men are able to get away with murder charges towards innocents people. Police men are trained to understand what to do in a situation that they must act before they react. Although it somewhat benefits police officers to understand what to do, it is the ratio from weapon training to conflict de-escalation that makes police officers, again, abuse their powers. There are many innocents lives that were taken away due to police misconduct, we need to put an end towards this.
Hi! My name is Aizen Manalo and I'm currently attending St. Augustine Secondary School here in Brampton. I like to spend time with friends and family the most. Going out to places like the movies, park, mall, friends/family houses and much more. My favourite things to do is to play sports, mostly volleyball and basketball. I've been playing both sports for quite awhile now and I get to be able to play on my highschool team! I'm looking forward to my Grade 10 English class with Mr. Martnic!
Art is "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power" It is the expression on how we think, speak, write and act. Art and creativity go hand to hand with each other as creativity speaks within the art industry. | |
